Are you looking for vacation in Bora Bora off the beaten track ? Do you want to learn more about Polynesian culture and live an authentic experience far from luxury hotels ? Bora Bora Camping Motu Ecologique has all the elements to make you live an unforgettable experience close to nature. This eco-camping site combines ecological and cultural aspects in a heavenly environment. Ideal to discover the real Bora Bora.
An authentic campground
Located on Motu Tupe, hidden from the big luxury hotels, with the ocean and the mythical mountain of Bora Bora on the horizon, Bora Bora Camping Motu Écologique has preserved the charm and authenticity of Polynesia. Here, luxury is far from the hotels that are spread out on the island of Bora Bora. Here luxury is the nature and the kindness of Tahianui and Tihoti. And this is priceless.
Tahianui and Tihoti decided to put their know-how to turn their motu into an ecological campground. Tahianui was a teacher and then a Chef. Tihoti worked as a tour guide. This is reflected in the experience offered to campers.
The cuisine is entirely vegan. Tahianui, an excellent cook, takes to heart the use of local products and highlights them in gourmet vegan dishes. Whether it is a chao men, a stew, or a salad, everything is carefully prepared without meat or imported vegetables. The bread is made on site. By using local products, the environmental impact is much lower, but it also allows visitors to discover local products and new flavors.
The use of natural resources
The campsite operates almost exclusively with natural resources. Indeed, rainwater is collected and used to supply the water needs on the motu. This makes us aware of the importance of preserving these resources and avoiding waste and overconsumption. Showers and toilets are very simple but are more than enough for a stay. Tahianui has set up a small vegetable garden with the objective of being self-sufficient to cook its delicious meals. There is no electricity and no internet. You won’t miss it because the motu is large and offers many spaces to enjoy.
A motu with many secrets
The motu has been carefully landscaped and the work behind each path is enormous. The ground of the motu is rather rocky, so Tahianui and Tihoti have created paths and spaces with sand for comfortable walking. For those who do not have a tent, different options with tent, mattress and bed sheets are offered. For those who bring their own tent, there is a large field and small areas protected from the wind to set up.
The location of the motu offers two different views. The ocean side with the island of Tahaa in front and the lagoon side with the view of the island of Bora Bora and its sunset.
Tihoti, very enthusiastic to share his culture, has set up a real cultural space like the stargazing spot to observe the stars.
But the campsite is also a place of creativity. Indeed, Tahianui and Tihoti regularly welcome woofers (volunteer work in exchange for room and board) who have participated in the construction of a teepee-shaped roof to accommodate visitors. Others have helped create beautiful murals and drawings of marine animals on the roof. All this contributes to the story of the Polynesian couple’s beautiful project.
Cultural discovery
Tihoti, a former tour guide, willingly shares his culture and it is a real pleasure to learn, discover and discuss with him. He will teach you all about the migration of the ancestors, the constellations, navigation, the Maohi culture but also about the surrounding nature and the power of the medicinal plants. You will also learn how to open and grate the coconut. Tahianui will not hesitate to share her best recipes with you. We had the opportunity to learn how to make bread in different ways. With her background as a teacher, Tahianui has the desire to develop an educational project to learn how to use local resources and learn more about the lagoon’s ecosystem.
Tihoti will take you snorkeling in a coral garden near the reef where you will be carried by a natural current. Then he will show you the “shark hole”, a fun swimming area near the ocean.
Lasting memories
The kindness and generosity of Tahianui and Tihoti will leave you with unique and lasting memories of your stay at Bora Bora Camping Motu Ecologique. By sharing your meals with them, you will get to know the Polynesian culture in a warm and family atmosphere. Having stayed there for my birthday, Tahianui took care to make me a gift and a souvenir for each person present. The sound of the ukulele carried us to our departure.
Staying at Bora Bora Camping Motu Écologique is the assurance of sharing quality moments with Tahianui and Tihoti. A big Mauruuru to them.
