When is the best time to travel to Bora Bora?

When planning a trip to Bora Bora, the question that always comes up is: when to go to Polynesia? It’s important to know that there are two seasons: summer and winter. Summer is the low peak season and winter is the high peak season. Here is all the information you need to plan your trip.

The weather in Bora Bora

Bora Bora is sunny all year round. Average temperatures are pleasant, ranging from 21 to 35°C. The weather can be unpredictable, so you should always expect a few surprise. But overall the seasons are organized as follows: summer and winter. Summer is the rainy season and winter is high peak season and less humid.

The weather can vary from one island to another and especially from one archipelago to another. For example, it will be much cooler in the Austral Islands during the winter season.

The archipelagos are very far apart; Polynesia covers 3,500 km², which is equivalent to the size of Europe. It can rain in Bora Bora and be sunny in Rangiroa.

The Summer

The summer takes place from mid November to mid April. This is the hottest and most humid season. It is also the season of abundance, Matarii’i ni’a, which is celebrated on November 20th in Polynesia. It is an opportunity to enjoy the many fruits of Polynesia, such as avocados, mangoes, passion fruit, etc.

During this period, there is a risk of cyclones, which are closely monitored throughout the season. There can be heavy rain, wind, and bad weather lasting several days. On another hand, there can also be beautiful hot and sunny days.

The lagoon water is at its warmest during this season, which is perfect for long bath until the end of the day.

The days are longer, so you have a little more time to enjoy the evening, as the sun sets early in Polynesia.

Finally, hotels will be cheaper because rates are based on the low season, and you will generally have more availability for excursions, restaurants, accommodation, etc. during the summer.
