From Bora Bora to Rangiroa

An hour’s flight from Bora Bora lies Rangiroa in the Tuamotu Archipelago. An atoll with an impressive lagoon to explore over a few days. The tranquility of the Tuamotu Islands is palpable. Excursions include snorkeling and diving, but above all, taking the time to enjoy life.

How to get to Rangiroa from Bora Bora ?

There is a direct flight from Bora Bora to Rangiroa. The flight takes 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Both Air Tahiti and Air Moana offer this flight.

However, if you travel with Air Tahiti, the return flight is via Tahiti as there is no direct connection in this direction. It is also possible to extend your stay in the Tuamotu Islands and take the opportunity to visit other atolls such as Fakarava or Tikehau.

Rangiroa and its lagoon

When you arrive by plane in Rangiroa, the immensity of the lagoon is revealed. The lagoon is 80 km long and 32 km wide. The Rangiroa atoll surrounds the 1,446 km² lagoon, making it the largest atoll in Polynesia and the second largest in the world.

The lagoon is home to world-renowned aquatic fauna, making it an excellent destination for diving enthusiasts. It is a veritable aquarium with sharks, dolphins, and a multitude of fish.

Blue Lagoon

The Blue Lagoon is one of the atoll’s attractions. After more than an hour’s boat ride from Ohotu, the arrival at the Blue Lagoon is heavenly. Small motus surround the bright blue inner lagoon. In this picture-postcard landscape, relaxation is guaranteed. You can snorkel and observe the many blacktip reef sharks or the fish in the lagoon that surround the corals.

It is an ideal place to relax and let yourself go.

Reef Island

Reef Island is another place of interest in the Rangiroa Atoll. Upon arriving on one of the motus, the landscape is once again heavenly. You can let yourself be carried away by a natural current and observe the many fish in the lagoon.

Then head for the reef. The landscape here is lunar. Multiple fossilized corals rise 3-4 meters above the water’s surface to the coral reef facing the ocean.

It is possible to swim with caution in the small natural pools surrounded by these formations called “hoa.” The roar and coolness of the ocean reveal an energy that only nature, in its simplest form, can provide.

In this naturally sculpted lunar landscape, humans are mere spectators.

The combo day trip begins with a visit to the Blue Lagoon, followed by a 45-minute boat ride to the Reef Island. Lunch is provided there.

After exploring the island, you will return to the Tiputa Pass to watch the dolphins, and the day will end with a snorkeling session at the “Aquarium,” a place with an enormous concentration of tropical fish.

Tiputa Pass

Tiputa Pass is the ideal place to watch dolphins. They love to jump, surf, and play near boats.

For divers, the area is known for its sharks, barracudas, dolphins, and manta rays. The rich wildlife makes it a must-see diving spot.

Visit the Tahiti Wine Cellar

Rangiroa is home to the only vineyards in Polynesia. Tahiti wine is unique because its vines grow on coral soil on the Rangiroa atoll. Don’t hesitate to book a tasting at the cellar. The white and rosé wines are made from Carignan rouge and Italia grape varieties.

For rum lovers, the cellar also offers rum tastings and the full range of MANA’O rums, a local brand made from sugar cane grown in Polynesia.
